Overview

Within the Division, multiple Intros and Trainings are offered to members and GCA holders. This document aims to provide an overview over the different training options and as guideline for new members to start at the IVAO Switzerland Division.

In the following, Introduction (Intro), Trainings and the role of the Trainer are explained.

Introduction

Introductions, short Intros, are taken to familiarize a controller with a new position. Intros do not provide training for a Rating nor do they aim to. The Intro aims to check, if a Trainee has reviewed all information for the position and has made himself familiar with the procedures. It also aims to solve any questions the Trainee has, upon reviewing the learning material.

The Intro starts with a theoretical part. The Trainer will ask questions about the most important knowledge and the procedures. Also, the Trainee can ask his questions at any time. This part usually takes about 45 Minutes to 1 hour, depending on the Trainee.

Thereafter a practical session will be held. The Trainee and Trainer will connect to the network together. The Trainee will take control of the position for the first time, supervised by the Trainer. This part usually takes 1 hour to 1 ½ hours.

Should the Trainee have sufficient theoretical knowledge and has performed well in the practical part, the Trainer will release the Trainee to control the position solo.

If the performance of the Trainee was not satisfactory, the Trainer will point out the most crucial mistakes. A new Intro will then be arranged. In the meantime, the Trainee can work on his issues.

The goal of an Intro is not, to have a perfect controller, but to have a solid base to improve on in future trainings and intros.

Trainings

Trainings aim to improve the skills of a controller and to prepare him for the next rank. In Trainings, theoretical and practical session will be held continuously until the Trainee is ready for the exam. The exam will be held by an examiner of our division.

A Training can be taken, when a controller achieves the rank of AS3, has done an Intro for Zürich or Geneva Tower and is willing to learn and improve, to achieve the rank of ADC. The rank of ADC grants you the permission to staff the arrival, given you have successfully done the ADC-Exam and completed an intro for Zürich and/or Geneva Arrival.

The Trainer

The trainer will provide information and tips, on how and what to improve.

Note: A Training can and will be canceled immediately, should a trainee not have made himself familiar with the procedures.

Foreword

The usual new controller, so called newbie, will have the rank of AS1. If you have transferred from another Division an have a higher rank, open a Support-Ticket on our Discord to get more Information.

This document expects you to have the ATC-Client Aurora already installed. A manual can be found on the IVAO.aero website.

New controller

As a new controller, you usually have the rank of AS1. This allows you, to staff the Delivery Position on any airport except Zürich and Geneva. Those airports require to take an afore mentioned intro for every position, before controlling. How to achieve that will be explained in the following.

Step 2

Join our discord. We use the Discord-Sever to share any information and to coordinate during controlling. It is also our social gathering and all the Intros and Trainings will be held there. You can also ask any question you have on our Discord-Server

Your task is now to decide, weather you want to start at Geneva or Zürich first. You can always make Intros and control both airports, however for the start you should decide for one airport.

You need to decide, at which of your major airports you want to start your career.

The ATMM and Handysheet (our procedures)

The ATMM is a document, providing you with all procedures for the airport. The Handysheet is a document with the most important information for controlling.

At the beginning of the ATMM, after the table of contents, the so called “self-study-split”. The self-study-split “splits” the different chapters into AS1, 2 and 3. Therefore, you do not need to study all chapters at once, but only the ones required for your rating.

Requesting an Intro

First steps for requesting an intro

Step 1

As you are AS1, you will start either as Zürich-Delivery or Geneva-Delivery. Your first step is now, to read all the chapters, that are listed in the “self-study-split” for AS1. We do not expect you to understand everything or learn everything by heart, however you should study the chapters thoroughly.

Step 2

The next step is, to write down or mark things you do not understand. You can ask these questions to your Trainer in your introduction.

Step 3

Either print out the Handysheet or have it digitally available. Take a first look at the Handysheet.

Step 4

The last step, before requesting the Intro is, to watch our AS1 e-learning video, which is available under this link.

This video explains the basic handling of Aurora, settings you have to make and covers important topics for the AS1.

Final Step

If you have completed the steps above, click on the link below. This will lead you to our “training/intro request section”. You will be prompted with a form, that requires you to choose, whether you want to request and ATC or Pilot Intro/Training. Choose ATC, enter your personal data and your required airport.

Enter your currents rating (AS1) and your requested Intro (AS1). Finalize our request and you have requested your first intro.

It is mandatory, that you join our discord server, as Intros, Trainings and the communication is held there.

If you joined our Division Server, the trainer assigned to you will write you on discord to set a date for your Intro. Otherwise, you will receive and E-Mail.

ATC schedule regulations

The purpose of this document is to guide ATC members in following the Switzerland ATC Schedule Rules & Regulations. This document must be followed by ALL ATC Members in the Switzerland Division, including GCA Holder Members, when scheduling Swiss positions.

Operational Regulations

The IVAO ATC Booking system is a tool to schedule ATC Slots, we encourage members using this system to book a position for a full staff, a training or exam request (coordinated with Trainer/Examiner) and for controlling purposes. Any ATC member can and is encouraged to use this tool.

1. A member booking a position is responsible for ensuring that he will provide the control on the booked position, in case of unavailability, the member is required to delete his reservation as soon as possible.
2. In case of no connection of the booked slot, any user can login to the position after 10 Minutes, then, the reservation is considered as cancelled.

(Cf: IVAO R&R) A.3.2.2 Schedule slots for ATC have priority for the user that booked it. A reservation is considered cancelled 10 minutes after the booked time if the user has failed to login. For examinations, this time is extended to 1 hour and for events, it is reduced to 5 minutes. After that, if the user is not online, any other user is allowed to login to the position.

3. In order to satisfy all ATCs with only 2 Major airports in our division, It is not allowed anymore, to book the same position in a row in advance more than once, before the first reservation has ended unless specifically authorized by CH ATC Ops staff on request.
4. For Events, the published event Roster needs to be followed, no schedule over the website will be taken in account.
5. Training slots will take precedence over normal booked sessions.

Sanctions

In case of any abuse or non-compliance of the CH ATC Scheduling Rules & Regulations, the CH ATC Ops and CH-HQ reserves the right to delete the reservations or even block the user’s access to the position.

If the problem persists, the Executive Council already aware of the situation may be notified, and further sanctions may be taken.
